DUSHANBE, Tajikistan — Internet providers in Tajikistan barred access Monday to web sites known for carrying criticism of the local government, acting on orders from authorities, providers and sites said.
The move came amid a military campaign against suspected Islamist militants whom the government has blamed for recent attacks in the republic.
Internet users were unable to open several news sites, including Ferghana.ru and Avesta.tj.
Tajik officials declined to comment on who had closed access to the sites and why.
