Girl Tossed From 7th Floor

A father has been detained on suspicion of throwing his 3-year-old daughter off the balcony of their seventh-floor apartment in western Moscow, RIA-Novosti reported Monday.

The girl died on the spot in the incident Sunday, the report said, citing the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee.

The father, Ivan Samuilov, faces up to life in prison if charged and convicted of murder.

Two similar but unrelated incidents took place in Moscow and the Leningrad region last fall, both involving military officers who threw stepchildren from apartment windows. The children suffered serious injuries but survived.
