Russian Bloggers Win Prizes at German Contest

Russian bloggers have won kudos at a prestigious blog competition in Germany.

The site mr-free-man.livejournal.com, which follows the exploits of a cartoon figure created by an unknown artist, was voted best video blog at the annual BOBs blog awards in Berlin, while the prize for the wackiest blog went to tebe-interesno.livejournal.com, which features spoof photos and video clips.

Novosibirsk-based Ilya Kabanov was voted the best Russian-language blogger for his site, metkere.com.

The decisions by a 14-member jury, including Rustem Adagamov, a photojournalist who runs the popular drugoi.livejournal.com blog, were announced Thursday.

The Butyrka blog, named after Moscow's notorious pretrial detention center, won first place among Russian-language blogs in the user-voting section of the contest.

The BOBs, which claim to be the biggest international blog awards, are organized by German broadcaster Deutsche Welle. The prizes will be presented in June at a ceremony at the broadcaster’s headquarters in Bonn.
