RJR Buys Kazakh Plant

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International has acquired a food-products manufacturing plant in Kazakhstan, one of the largest in the former Soviet Union. The Skimkent factory manufactures a range of cookies, crackers and candies. The factory has more than 1,000 employees. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International is a unit of RJR Nabisco Inc., the New York-based food and tobacco company.
