Record for Leonardo

NEW YORK () -- A 72-page illustrated manuscript by Leonardo Da Vinci that predicts the invention of the submarine and the steam engine was auctioned Friday for more than $30 million, a record price for a manuscript.

It is called the Codex Hammer because it was bought in 1980 for $5.6 million by industrialist Armand Hammer, who followed the tradition of previous owners and named it after himself -- but that tradition might end with Friday's sale, as Christie's auction house said the new owner has asked to remain anonymous.
