Seventy-seven percent of Russians have expressed their support for more female involvement in politics, a survey by the independent Levada Center pollster revealed, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.
Half of male respondents and 86 percent of female respondents agreed that the highest governmental posts should be shared equally between men and women.
According to the poll, the majority of Russians (64 percent) believe that both genders should enjoy equal rights and freedoms, with 30 percent of respondents saying they are against this.
About one-third of Russians (32 percent) would like to see a female president in the next 10-15 years.
Nearly half of respondents would not vote for a female president, the poll showed.
Fifty-one percent of Russians believe that men have more chances advance their careers, and 41 percent think that women have approximately the same opportunities.
The survey questioned 800 respondents in 48 Russian regions.
