Oil Grant to Inuit Tribe

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A corporation owned by native American Inuits of Alaska has received a federal grant to study the feasibility of building a small-scale petroleum refinery in northwestern Russia, officials said.

The Inupiat Inuit-owned Arctic Slope Regional Corp. received a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to study the project, U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska said in a statement released Wednesday.

The Arctic Slope study will consider a 7,500-barrel-a-day refinery to produce kerosene, low-sulphur bunker fuel, and fuel gas.
