ZURICH, Switzerland () -- Top-seeded Martina Navratilova advanced to the quarterfinals of the $750,000 European Indoors tennis tournament with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory over fellow American Meredeth McGrath.
Also Wednesday, Second seed Mary Pierce of France knocked out Larissa Neiland of Lithuania, 6-3, 6-3, and was scheduled to face 14-year-old Martina Hingis of Switzerland in the second round Thursday.
In the first round at the $400,000 Toulouse Open on Wednesday, Guy Forget of France continued his strong comeback by beating top-seeded Andrei Medvedev of Ukraine 6-3, 6-3. Another French player knocked out the second seed as Olivier Delaitre defeated Marc Rosset of Switzerland 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in the second round late Wednesday.
