Moscow Transport Up 50%THE MOSCOW TIMES

Public transportation fares in Moscow were increased by 50 percent Thursday, bringing the cost of a single token for the metro from 100 rubles to 150 rubles (from 5 to 7.5 cents), Moscow public transportation officials said Friday. Transport on buses, trolleybuses and streetcars now costs 120 rubles, up from 80. The cost of a monthly pass for all public transport was raised to 16,500 rubles from 10,800. It is the second increase this year for public transport costs in Moscow, last raised in March. In the last 1 1/2 years the metro fare has increased 150-fold from one ruble to the newly announced 150 rubles and further increases are expected before the end of the year. Even with the new increase, however, riding the Moscow metro is still less expensive than the metro in Novosibirsk, where a token costs 200 rubles, according to Itar-Tass.
