Olga Makarova, the judge who ordered the arrest of Vera Trifonova, a businesswoman who died in pretrial detention in April, has formally been dismissed from office, a Supreme Court spokesman said Saturday.
Makarova resigned in May, but the judges’ qualification board of the Moscow region decided that she would be officially listed as fired. This means that Makarova, whom Supreme Court chief justice Vladimir Lebedev earlier accused of “gross violations,” will lose her judge’s pension. Trifonova’s lawyer said investigators were considering charges against Makarova, Interfax said.
