Chelyabinsk Man Kills Couple, Self in Dispute

The Moscow Times

A Chelyabinsk entrepreneur killed a lawyer and her husband, a prosecutor, and injured another man before shooting himself dead after police had foiled his escape attempt, media reported Wednesday.

Alexander Bak, 48, fired a Makarov handgun at Oleg and Irina Ukhins, attacking them after they dropped off their 3-year-old son at a kindergarten, Interfax said.

Bak then headed to his sister's apartment building, shooting and injuring her unidentified husband in the lobby and leaving him there for dead, the Lifenews.ru tabloid said.

After that, Bak fled the city in his Toyota Land Cruiser, but was blocked by three police vehicles on a highway outside Chelyabinsk and committed suicide.

Police blamed the bloody showdown on an unspecified conflict between Bak and Ukhina, who used to work as an accountant for his company, Interfax said.

But Lifenews.ru claimed, citing investigation sources, that Bak went on a murder spree because his sister, whose name was withheld, successfully sued him for an apartment. Ukhina represented the woman at the trial.
