Bardot Urges Moscow to Prohibit Bullfight

PARIS -- Brigitte Bardot, the film star turned animal rights activist, urged Russia on Tuesday to stop a Spanish businessman's plans to hold two bullfights in Moscow next month.

The Bardot Foundation urged the Kremlin to step in to prevent "cynical and opportunist businessmen from seizing on the current confusion in [Russian] society in order to fill their pockets by exporting the most shameful of their traditions."

The French actress also took President Boris Yeltsin to task in a separate letter for failing to prevent "a death gulag of baby seals on the White Sea" and "the revolting butchering of reindeer on the Kheta river."
