Luckily, Cordazar Calvin Broadus, also known as Snoop Dogg, will be filling this gap on Wednesday with his concert at B1 Maximum.
If you want to catch Snoop in Moscow after Wednesday, then Black Star — a club perched on the top of Yevropeisky Mall near Kievskaya metro station — is the place to go. The club was opened by Timati, one of Russia’s most famous rappers who recorded a song with Snoop earlier this year.
“I am so excited about Snoop Dogg coming to Moscow,” said Alina Saltykova, 21, after dancing to a remix of Snoop Dogg’s “Drop it Like it’s Hot” at the club recently.
“I love hip-hop, but I’m getting bored of the few places that play it in Moscow. Snoop Dogg this Wednesday is definitely one of my highlights this year.”
Snoop, who played last summer in the capital, is flying in Wednesday from Antwerp to entertain his Moscow fan base with songs from his album “Ego Trippin” and possibly a preview of his new album “Malice in Wonderland.”
“Malice in Wonderland,” which features Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams and Lalo Schifrin (author of the “Mission Impossible” title tune), is due to come out later this year. The album was inspired by a session Snoop Dogg had with composer Schifrin, according to MTV.com.
“He conducted some music for me that was so sinister, so evil, mean and dark,” Snoop said. “I just wanted to make a record like that. That’s just the way I feel.”
Snoop Dogg, who was called Snoopy by his parents because he supposedly looked like the dog in the Peanuts cartoon as a child, started his rap career after high school when Dr. Dre discovered one of his homemade record tapes produced with his group, 213.
More recently, Snoop has diversified from making music and popularizing his catch-phrase suffix, “–izzle,” to acting in films and starting up the “Snoop Youth Football League.”
He is also a big fan of PlayStation games, said Roman Unguryanu, one of the organizers of the concert.
“I thought it was funny when he asked for a PlayStation box to be put in the backstage area prior to his concert last summer,” Unguryanu said. “So far we haven’t heard anything from Snoop Dogg yet.”
