Eleventh-graders are in for a day of mixed emotions as the summer semester draws to a close in schools across the country.
More than 800,000 students are taking leave to prepare for their final examinations, which are due to begin next week.
In Moscow, about 3,000 police have been mobilized to provide security for school leavers who traditionally mark the day with boat trips and strolls around the capital's parks and squares, transport police told Interfax Friday.
Meanwhile, in Russia's Far East celebrations are already underway, with students there having earlier heard the school-bell ring out for the last time. In towns and cities across Russia, the event is marked by festive parades and fireworks.
Yet, with the first of the state examinations due to take place next week, final-year students cannot afford to relax too much just yet. The first exam, scheduled to take place on Monday, will be Russian Language.
