World Ballet Day
Former prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, defies those who criticized her reluctance to give up the spotlight by dancing at a gala performance aged 70, on Nov. 28, 1995 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

The first World Ballet Day on Oct. 1 will have five dance companies — the Bolshoi Ballet, Royal Ballet, Australian Ballet, National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet — stream footage live from their rehearsal rooms.
