Muscovites now have the opportunity to get a bird's eye view of their city's cultural and historical landmarks while keeping their feet on the ground with a partial miniature model of the city currently on display at the VDNKh exhibition center.
A small portion of the unfinished 945-square-meter model, which is set to be completed in 2017, presents downtown Moscow in its finest detail. With its 400-to-1 scale, the foam model reproduces all 6,500 buildings of the Boulevard Ring in a confined space.
When completed, the model of Moscow will be the largest of any miniature layout of a city and will feature, among other landmarks, all of the city's railway stations and the iconic campus of Moscow State University. Municipal authorities have said the initiative could be immortalized in the "Guinness Book of World Records" upon the model's completion.
Some 80 artists, architects and graphic designers have been working on the project since it was initiated in 2012.
