In Photos: Russians Hold Pickets, Lay Flowers for Political Prisoners Past and Present
Russians across the country staged demonstrations and laid flowers on Monday in remembrance of political prisoners past and present.
The actions marked the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, which has been held in Russia every year on Oct. 30 since 1991.
While the holiday is dedicated to those who faced political repression in the Soviet Union, it has taken on renewed resonance in 2023, when many opposition figures are in prison and the country's leading rights groups have been shut down.
