A woman from the northern Russian city of Arkhangelsk attempted to abduct her ex-husband for a forced kidney donation, state news agency Vesti.ru reported Tuesday.
The woman, whom BaltInfo identified as a Sberbank cashier, wanted the kidney for her sick child and believed that the child's father would be the best donor, the agency reported.
With the assistance of two professional soldiers, the woman forced her ex-husband, who works at Sevmash, Russia's largest shipyard, into a car at gunpoint, planning to take him to Moscow for the operation, Vesti.ru reported. The man was later freed by police and the three suspected kidnappers were detained.
"Since contract soldiers are involved with the crime, the case will be handled by the military investigative department. All three suspects have been released from police custody but are not allowed to leave the country," a law enforcement source was quoted as saying by BaltInfo, adding that the man had not been harmed.
