Monte Carlo-based construction company Scp Basillique has agreed in principle to build a bridge providing an alternative pedestrian and cycling route to the Zenit St. Petersburg football club's new stadium, a venue for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The bridge will cost 120 million euros ($163 million), with funds likely to come from the federal budget and private investors, said Irina Babyuk, head of St. Petersburg's committee on investment.
Construction should be completed by 2018, the committee said last week in an online statement.
The bridge will link Krestovsky Island, where the Zenit Arena is being built, with a park in the city's northwestern Primorye district. It will be 420 meters long, 28 meters wide and boast two tiers, with a route for pedestrians, cyclists and rollerbladers on the first level and shops and cafes situated along the second, RIA Novosti reported.
