4 Killed by Falling Bulldozer in Kirov Region

Four people were killed in the Kirov region after a bulldozer toppled off the truck on which it was being transported and fell onto a passing car, local police said.

"During a right turn by the truck, a bulldozer fell from the trailer's platform onto an approaching Ford Focus car," police said in a statement on Sunday. "As a result of the road accident the driver and three passengers of the Ford car were killed."

The car's occupants were all from one family: The husband, wife, young daughter and father-in-law.

The accident took place on a stretch of federal highway in the Orlovsky district of the Kirov region. The truck transporting the bulldozer was likely to have been traveling too fast for the road conditions, according to police.

About 30,000 people lose their lives every year in Russian road traffic accidents, mainly due to the poor state of highway networks and reckless driving.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
