A criminal investigation has been opened into the death of a Moscow high school principal in pretrial detention last week, the BBC Russian Service reported on Tuesday.
The Federal Prison Service said Andrei Kudoyarov died of a heart attack on Saturday, but the Investigation Committee said it suspects negligence.
On Monday, human rights activists launched their own investigation .
Kudoyarov was detained in May on suspicion of taking bribes.
