Racist Violence Drops in Russia

Hate-crime watchdog Sova said Wednesday that there was a sharp drop in racist violence in Russia over the past year.

The independent group said 71 people were killed and 333 wounded in racially motivated attacks last year, down from 110 killed and 487 wounded in 2008.

Sova deputy head Galina Kozhevnikova said it marks the first significant reported drop in such attacks since the group started collecting statistics in 2004.
