Putin Lands in Crimea For Victory Day in First Visit Since Annexation

President Vladimir Putin has landed in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, the Kremlin press office told Reuters Friday afternoon.

The president had previously been rumored to be planning a visit to the city, his first since the Crimean peninsula was annexed by Russia in March following a regional referendum on secession from Ukraine.

Putin spent the morning in Moscow, where he gave an address at Moscow's annual Victory Day parade, commemorating the victory of Soviet forces over Nazi Germany in World War II.

The president's time in Sevastopol will be spent at the city's own Victory Day parade and laying flowers at the monument to those who defended the city during the war, Interfax reported.
