Failed Iran Nuclear Talks

ISTANBUL — Six world powers, including Russia, failed to prise any change from Iran in two days of talks on its nuclear program, with the EU and United States calling the discussions disappointing and saying no further meetings were planned.

During the summit in Istanbul on Friday and Saturday, Iran pushed demands that it must have known were unacceptable to the six — a lifting of sanctions and acceptance of its enrichment program before any further discussion of its nuclear activities.

“Both these preconditions are not the way to proceed,” EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton declared, adding that no new talks were planned.
