Visitors to Moscow's State Tretyakov gallery broke an entrance door in an attempt to enter a popular exhibition, the Meduza news website reported Thursday.
The door was broken by visitors to the Valentin Serov exhibition, which opened in the Tretyakov gallery on Oct. 7, 2015. Serov's paintings will be on display in the gallery until the end of this week.
People had to wait their turn to enter the exhibition in two long queues — one for electronic ticket holders and another for regular tickets holders. The door was broken by the visitors from the regular tickets queue.
People were forced to stand in freezing temperatures, the temperature in Moscow at the time was -15 degrees Celsius, according to Meduza.
Following the incident, the Tretyakov gallery stopped selling tickets to the exhibition online, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.
Valentin Serov is a 19th and early 20th century Russian artist, regarded as one of Russia's premier portrait artists. One of his most famous works is “The Girl with Peaches” painting.
