The Education Ministry is preparing educational materials on the situation in Crimea to be released sometime next week, Deputy Education Minister Benjamin Kaganov said.

"It is very important for both teachers and students to understand the meaning of all the events taking place in Crimea and Ukraine, and also the meaning of the decisions made by Russia," the official said, Interfax reported.

Kaganov said that educators in schools and universities will have to independently determine the format of the lessons, which could be delivered as a traditional history lecture or an afterschool discussion, adding that the discussions will be another step in the civic education of the children.

On Monday, a similar educational outreach plan was proposed by the deputy head of United Russia, Nikolai Bulayev, who hoped such lessons would be given to both university students and school children.

"As a former teacher, I understand that students need clarification of events which are taking place currently in Ukraine, Crimea, and Russia. They need to clarification on the position which was taken by our president," said Bulayev.
