Drunk Off-Duty Cop Kills Mother, Child in St. Petersburg

A drunk off-duty police officer drove onto a sidewalk in St. Petersburg on Sunday night, hitting a mother and her teenage child, both of whom died at the scene.

At around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the police lieutenant drove onto the sidewalk in a Honda Accord and hit the two pedestrians, a police source told RIA-Novosti. He then collided with an Opel, injuring the driver and a female passenger, both of whom received serious injuries and were hospitalized.

The police lieutenant will be fired Monday for his actions, a police spokesperson told Fontanka.ru. The spokesperson said the officer had been drunk at the time of the accident.
