8 Detained for Unsanctioned Rally Near Dutch Embassy

The Moscow Times

Police detained eight people Wednesday afternoon for holding an unsanctioned rally near the Dutch Embassy, RIA-Novosti reported.

The rally is believed to be connected to the recent suicide of Alexander Dolmatov, an opposition activist and member of the Other Russia party who hanged himself in a Rotterdam extradition center after having been refused political asylum.

"Today on Kalashny Pereulok eight people were detained and transported to the police station for attempting to hold an unsanctioned rally," a police spokesperson told the state-run news agency. The Dutch Embassy is located at 6 Kalashny Pereulok.
