A charter flight operated by UTAir failed to leave Moscow for the Egyptian resort of Hurghada on Tuesday morning because of technical problems with the plane, stranding 235 passengers for more than 12 hours.
The flight was scheduled to leave Domodedovo Airport at 5:55 a.m., but the plane, a Boeing 757-200, never made it to the airport from another Egyptian resort, Sharm-el-Sheikh, UTAir spokeswoman Yelena Galanova told Interfax.
She did not specify the technical problems with the aircraft but said tickets for the charter route between Moscow, Hurghada and Sharm-el-Sheikh were sold by tour agency Aneks Tour.
Out of the 235 passengers who bought tickets for the delayed flight, 171 were moved to a hotel, two are waiting at the airport, and the rest are at home, Interfax said.
Galanova said the plane from Sharm-el-Sheikh was due to land at Domodedovo Airport at 2 p.m. and take off for Hurghada at 6 p.m. But by 6:15 p.m., Domodedovo's online arrivals board showed that the Sharm-el-Sheikh flight was not actually due until 10:30 p.m., so a further delay was possible.
