The Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Inspection Service said Saturday that it had temporarily banned milk from certain suppliers in the Netherlands after finding that they were in breach of agricultural regulations.

Milk imports to Russia from 10 dairies in the Netherlands will be temporarily limited, while another three suppliers will be prohibited from importing milk, the watchdog said on its web site. The limitations were to go into effect on Sunday, it said.

Last year the Federal Consumer Protection Service banned the imports of about 1,200 Belarussian dairy products, but the ban, described in the media as a "milk war" and widely seen as political maneuvering between Moscow and Minsk, was lifted shortly after. A similar feud broke out with Lithuania in August after the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Inspection Service discovered antibiotics in the country's dairy products, but the dispute was resolved in September.
