Ukraine Asks Russia to Resume Gas Supplies

Denis Grishkin / Vedomosti

Ukraine's state oil and gas company Naftogaz has asked Russian energy giant Gazprom to resume the country's gas supplies, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Tuesday.

The request relates to nine months of gas supplies from the second half of 2016 into the first quarter of 2017, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said.

On Monday, Naftogaz head Andrei Kobolev said that Ukraine would resume Russian gas imports if Gazprom could offer a better price than European suppliers, RIA Novosti reported.

Gas supplies from Russia to Ukraine have been halted since the end of 2015. Kiev has instead been importing gas from Europe, claiming it to be more cost-effective.

… we have a small favor to ask.
