Economic Recovery to Be Focus of St. Petersburg Forum

Russia’s main interest inthe 13th International Economic Forum tobe held inSt. Petersburg this week is tofind out where theworld economy is heading, Deputy Economic Development Minister Sergei Belyakov said.

“This forum is tobe held inRussia, but it is aninternational event,” he said. “We are interested infinding out which direction world economic thought is oriented toward, what are theglobal trends andwhether we are tuned into them.”

This year, theforum’s motto is “Finding resolve tobuild thenew global economy.” It will address pressing issues affecting theworld today such as theglobal crisis andthe means toensure economic recovery, RIA Novosti reported.

More than 5,000 participants are expected atthe 2013 forum, andit willbe more high profile than theone held last year, with top decision makers scheduled to participate, Economic Development Minister Andrei Belousov told Vesti 24 television channel.

He said German Chancellor Angela Merkel had already confirmed her presence atthe forum. Also, theCEOs ofleading companies are expected toattend.

Last year, theforum’s focused oneffective leadership. More than 5,000 people attended theevent.

Eighty-four agreements worth atotal of360 billion rubles ($11 billion) were signed.
