Auto Industry Hits Nadir

Last year, the country’s auto industry was in its worst shape of the past 38 years, Avtostat said in its report Monday.

The number of cars made in Russia fell by 59.8 percent to 722,400. The industry hasn’t produced such a small number since 1972, before the AvtoVAZ plant reached capacity, the report said, predicting a rebound in 2010, with most assembly plants growing by “at least 15 percent.”
