Russian Opposition Leader Navalny Files Lawsuit Against Putin

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has filed a lawsuit against President Vladimir Putin, according to a post on Navalny's blog Thursday.

The press service of Moscow's Tverskoy District Court confirmed that the lawsuit had been filed, the RBC news website reported Thursday.

Russia's president violated the law on counteracting corruption, according to Navalny.

Putin didn't report a conflict of interest when he signed a decree on the allocation of $1.75 billion from Russia's National Wealth Fund to the Sibur petrochemical company, Navalny said in his lawsuit.

Navalny claims the funds were allocated to the construction of a petrochemical complex, after Kirill Shamalov, the husband of a woman reported to be Putin's daughter, became a shareholder in the company.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin was not aware of the lawsuit, the TASS news agency reported.
