Suspected Lithuanian Killer Nabbed in Yekaterinburg

A man sought by Interpol on suspicion of of having committed multiple murders in Russia and Lithuania has been apprehended in Yekaterinburg, Kommersant newspaper reported Wednesday.

Lithuanian native Romas Zamolskis, 44, is suspected of having killed at least eight people, according to the newspaper.

His public Interpol file, however, states that Zamolskis is only suspected of having killed two people, as well as having wounded three police officers and illegally possessed weapons and ammunition.

Zamolskis fled his native country in 2001 after police thwarted a hostage crisis in the city of Panevezys during which the suspect's 25-year-old accomplice was killed, Lithuanian news portal Delfi reported Wednesday.

After fleeing Lithuania, Zamolskis changed his name and settled in the Chelyabinsk countryside, Kommersant reported.

According to Kommersant, Zamolskis is suspected of having carried out contract-killings in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Sverdlovsk region.
