'Smart' Maps Appear at Moscow Bus Stops

Moscow's first "smart" bus stops have appeared on Tverskaya Ulitsa. The touch panels allow passengers to find out the exact time of the arrival of the bus and - just for Moscow - are covered with a special vandal-proof plastic. Vladimir Filonov

Moscow's first "smart" bus stops have appeared on the main Tverskaya Ulitsa in central Moscow.

Touch panels with interactive maps have been installed at five stops, allowing passengers to find out the exact time of the arrival of the bus or trolleybus. The menu also includes emergency numbers and the addresses of banks and cafes.

The touch panels are covered with a special vandal-proof plastic, according to City Hall's official news web portal, m24.ru. They work even in freezing weather, and passengers don't have to take off their gloves to use them.

While the interactive map is only in Russian, developers have promised to add an English version soon.

Similar touch panels are also planned for metro stations, train stations and other major transportation interchanges.
