Russian Student Killed

PHOENIX, Arizona () -- A Russian exchange student was struck and killed by a city bus as she ran across a street apparently to catch a bus to school, police said.

Marina Shemzhakina, 17, from the Siberian city of Irkutsk, died after the accident early Thursday.

"She was a beautiful, talented girl who touched the lives of many people, all of whom are better off for it," said Michael Hawkins, a federal appeals court judge whose family was hosting Shemzhakina.
