Russia Seeks Foreign Pupils

The state will double the number of scholarships for foreign students seeking to study at Russian schools, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

"We are offering state-funded scholarships for 10,000 students a year. We will offer to double this figure … up to 20,000 scholarships a year," he said, Interfax reported. He said special quotas should be made for students from other former Soviet republics. The program aims to promote the Russian language.
