Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has demanded a “total reboot” and “reformatting” of the country’s government, claiming that the acting Cabinet ministers has lost society’s trust, the Meduza news website reported Tuesday, citing Poroshenko’s statement.
Poroshenko also asked that Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin resign in order to “regain people’s trust,” the president’s spokesman wrote on Twitter.
A member of Poroshenko’s party, Sergei Kaplin, said that parliament would likely support the dismissal of Yatsenyuk.
A new government would need to be based upon the existing coalition, said Poroshenko — promising that he would use his right to fully dissolve the parliament only in an emergency.
“The tension between the government and the factions is so high that it threatens the viability of the coalition, but its collapse would plunge the country into a deep and prolonged political crisis,” he said, Meduza reported.
