Polish Court Backs Zakayev

A Warsaw court on Tuesday threw out a challenge of the release of Chechen insurgent representative Akhmed Zakayev, who was briefly detained in Poland last month but set free by a lower court, RIA-Novosti reported.

The release of Zakayev, who is wanted in Russia on terrorism-related charges, was contested by local prosecutors, but the lawsuit was rejected during the closed hearing, the report said.

Zakayev, who traveled to Poland for the World Chechen Congress and returned to Britain after his release, did not attend Tuesday’s hearing because of visa problems.
