Transportation police seized 32 gold nuggets worth more than 336,000 rubles ($10,800) from a drunk passenger at a train station in the Sakha republic.
Police said in a statement Wednesday that some of the nuggets were the size of matchboxes and that they were seized from an unidentified 49-year-old Zabaikalsky region resident detained at the Neryungri train station for being drunk in public.
When police officers searched his sports bag, they discovered 32 gold nuggets of various sizes weighing 262 grams, which tests confirmed were uncleaned gold.
Police are currently running a check into the incident. It was not immediately clear how the drunk Zabaikalsky region resident came across the gold.
