The suspect behind the hit-and-run crash that killed the prolific actress Marina Golub has been placed on a federal wanted list, police said Thursday.
Moscow police identified the suspect as Alexei Rusakov and appealed for him to turn himself in, a police spokesperson told reporters at the Interior Ministry, according to Interfax.
Rusakov, born in 1980 and registered as living in Moscow on 23 Sudostroitelnaya Ulitsa, Building 2, is the primary suspect in the car crash that killed Golub and her gypsy-cab driver just after midnight Tuesday.
The crash occurred when a Cadillac ran a red light at the intersection of Vernadsky Prospekt and Lobachevskaya Ulitsa in southwest Moscow and struck three cars — a Hyundai, Lada and KIA ?€” before speeding off.
The Hyundai in which Golub, 54, and her driver were seated rolled over and both were declared dead at the scene.
The police on Thursday were searching for Rusakov, who is believed to own a second Cadillac and left his mobile phone and passport at the scene of the accident. He has a poor driving record, with 10 crashes and multiple tickets for speeding and other traffic violations in the past 12 years, according to national media reports.
Both President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev have expressed their condolences over Golub's death.
