Police Detain Elderly Man Suspected of Dagestan Murders

Police detained an elderly man suspected of killing two sons of an Interior Ministry employee in the village of Belidzhi in Dagestan.

“Police confiscated a knife from him, and it is believed to be the murder weapon,” a police spokesman said in comments carried by RIA-Novosti on Wednesday.

The suspect is a resident of a nearby village and was acquainted with the victims’ parents, police said. A criminal case has been opened on charges of murder and violent robbery, which carry a maximum punishment of 15 years and two years, respectively.

The Interior Ministry employee arrived home Monday night and discovered his two sons, ages 11 and 12, dead with multiple cuts and stab wounds.
