A memorial plaque honoring the pilot of the Russian Su-24 bomber shot down by Turkish forces on Tuesday will be unveiled in Russia's far eastern Amur region, where the pilot served, the RIA Novosti agency reported, quoting press officers for the regional administration.

“Oleg Peshkov served in the Vozzhaevsky area [in the Amur region] for seven years,” a spokesperson said, RIA reported.

“Two possible sites for the installation of a memorial plaque are being considered: the parade ground of [his] military unit, and the house where the heroic pilot resided,” they added.

Peshkov was killed by Turkmen militants active in northwestern Syria after a Turkish F-16 jet downed his plane, which Turkey later said had unlawfully entered its airspace — a claim disputed by Russian officials.

The administration said it would announce by the end of November the date when the plaque will be unveiled, the RIA report said.
