Medvedev Names New Deputy Ministers for Regions and Mass Media

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday appointed two deputy ministers in charge of regional development and mass media, Interfax reported.

Upon Medvedev's order, Mikhail Yervayev, 41, left his post as a deputy regional development minister to become deputy minister of mass media and communications, the communications ministry's website said.

Vladimir Dedyukhin took the post of deputy regional development minister, replacing President Vladimir Putin's close ally Vladimir Kogan, whose resignation Medvedev accepted Tuesday.

No official biography for Dedyukhin was available early Wednesday, but the latest media reports identified him as an adviser to the ousted defense minister, Anatoly Serdyukov, in 2011 and as deputy regional development minister from 2005 to 2008.

Like Kogan previously, Dedyukhin will be responsible for construction and utilities, the regional development ministry's website said.

A large-scale reshuffling is taking place that would see some of the agency's powers handed over to the newly appointed regional development minister, Igor Slyunyayev.
