Luzhkov Wins Nemtsov Suit

Liberal politician Boris Nemtsov must retract two lines from a pamphlet criticizing Mayor Yury Luzhkov and pay a fine of 60,000 rubles ($1,942), the Ninth Appellate Arbitration Court ruled Monday, Interfax reported.

Luzhkov and his billionaire wife, Yelena Baturina, won a lawsuit against Nemtsov in the Moscow Arbitration Court in February. Nemtsov was ordered to pay a fine of 40,000 rubles ($1,295) instead of the 200,000 rubles demanded by the plaintiffs and is required to retract a single statement that said Baturina’s business only thrived in Moscow.

Monday’s decision said Nemtsov must also retract his accusations about Baturina’s involvement in the privatization of a Moscow construction company. Nemtsov’s lawyer said the politician would appeal.
