Lenin Library Evacuated Due To Smoke

More than 400 visitors and staff were evacuated from the Russian State Library on Monday after a small fire broke out in one of the rooms, filling the area with smoke.

A short-circuit in a lamp on the second floor of the building is believed to have caused the fire at 3 Vozdvizhenka, Korpus B, Building 2, the Emergency Situations Ministry said in a statement.

The fire, which measured 1 square meter, was put out by a police officer with the use of a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived on the scene, Interfax reported.

The Emergency Situations Ministry said that firefighters had received a call for help at 9:36 a.m. and that no one was injured.
