The flight crew of a Sukhoi Superjet 100 had to abort takeoff Wednesday from Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport due to engine failure, Interfax reported.
The Aeroflot jet, scheduled to fly from Moscow to Kharkov, had just commenced takeoff procedures when suddenly an alarm signal on the cockpit's computers indicated a problem with one of the engines, it said, citing an air traffic control official.
The pilot immediately aborted takeoff and successfully stopped the airplane before it went off the end of the runway. He was then able to guide the stricken Superjet back to the gate at the terminal.
The incident resulted in no injuries, and the aircraft has been removed from service, the official told Interfax.
It was not immediately clear how many passengers were on board the plane, which have 75 to 95 seats.
The Superjet, Russia's regional jet and first new civilian aircraft since the Soviet collapse, has faced multiple problems since its rollout in April 2011. Its maker has shrugged them off as teething problems.
