Crane Topples Onto Residential Building in Kirov (Video)

Video: A crane falling onto a block of flats in Kirov.

A multi-ton crane has fallen onto a block of flats in Kirov, destroying balconies and damaging several cars parked below.

There were no fatalities or injuries as the crane toppled onto the residential building, which is home to around 250 people, Interfax reported.

Writing in her blog on LiveJournal, one woman described how residents sought shelter in the corridor.

"The crane fell onto the ninth-story balcony and then, over the course of the next two-three minutes, it fell through all the balconies to the first floor," she wrote.

It is not yet clear what caused the crane to topple, though preliminary data suggests that the crane could have been poorly secured.

Residents also made reference to the high wind, which was swirling at the time of the incident.

A full investigation into the incident is now under way.?
