Argentine coach Alfio Basile, short of creative talent for his team, said he keep trying to get Diego Maradona fit enough to play in the 1994 World Cup finals.
Basile said Tuesday that he preferred Maradona to remain without a club and that he was also hoping to have striker Claudio Caniggia in his World Cup squad.
Caniggia is still serving a 15-month worldwide ban for drug abuse but Basile said he would be allowed to start training with the Argentine squad as soon as the suspension finishes.
"We are following Caniggia's progress and when the ban ends in April he can join us," Basile told a news conference.
